Totsukuni no Shoujo, also called The Girl From the Other Side, is a supernatural manga series. The main characters in the series are Shiva and Teacher. The primary theme is the division of two worlds, the Inside and the Outside. It is believed that long ago there was a God of darkness and a God of light.
The people who followed the God of light lived happy lives and the God of darkness would play tricks on them. Enraged, the God of light banished the God of darkness to the Outside. The creatures living on each side were told never to cross to the other realm or they’ll forever be cursed.
The Inside is where human beings live safely and in peace. The outside, on the other hand, is where twisted beasts roam around and have the ability to curse one with the touch of their hand. On one side lives the human girl Shiva and on the other, in a vacant village, lives the Teacher in Totsukuni no Shoujo Manga.
The two are forbidden to interact but their special bond surpasses any borders or restrictions. The Teacher (sensei) cares for Shiva deeply and they live a happy life together. Shiva embarks on an adventure to find her grandmother which starts to unravel mysteries including the secret behind her living arrangement.
Soon after, Shiva finds out that her life is in danger not just from the Outside but also her own kind. This manga series is rather sad and keeps getting more interesting as the story proceeds.
